APN Cape York, in partnership with the Koolkan Aurukun State School and Education Queensland, have developed a cultural program that takes place on country, each year for Year 6 students.
The camp is based on helping the younger generation to connect to their heritage including mental health & wellbeing, bushwalking, bush food collection, humpy building and artefact making while learning from the Rangers and scientists about caring for country..
Tha' Pemp Wuut Mankantam (The Returning Generation Camp) takes place on peoples’ homelands with traditional teaching methods in mind. The aim of the camp is to assist the community in taking their young people out to their homelands - for many of the children, this is their first time.
In the 4 years since the camp's inception, over 80 students and 20 elders have attended the camps.
